There is an increasing need for individuals to learn and grow in their spirituality outside the conventions of religion, where spiritual seekers and practitioners can come together and express their forms of spirituality in a safe and supportive environment and receive guidance and mentorship through educational programs. In the Bow Valley, there is no such community organization that has stepped up to fill this role, and there are few organizations across Canada working to create the framework necessary for such societies to exist. We are the first organization in the Bow Valley to work towards fulfilling this need from a not-for-profit (and working towards a charitable status) standpoint!
The word 'mem' is the written expression of the letter 'M.' In the Abrahamic traditions, 'mem' is one of the three M-other letters connected to creation itself and is defined as water, primordially it represents the womb of creation. We welcome you to The House of Water or The House of the Mother - The House of Mem!
The totem for our community is the owl, a symbol of feminine energies and the moon. For us, the owl represents the wisdom of the ancient mystery traditions and brings us messages of how to transform ourselves through death and rebirth. Theirs is the ability to have sight in the night, giving us the power to see clearly in dark times and envision a new dream. The owl for us holds the powers of the West, working to initiate us through the cleansing waters of the mother, life. Great are the mysteries of the owl; for through them, we can know there is no need to fear the dark!
